When Should I Replace My Windows?

So you notice a draft coming from the window giving the room a chill. Is it time to Replace my windows?…

Lets talk about the typical double hung window, it is the standard in America but not the rest of the world.

Do you feel air moving around the weather stripping of the window? Then typically the weather stripping has failed if you are feeling a draft come in.

Do you see a fog on the inside of the glass between the panes? That would say the seal has failed and the argon or krypton gas that they use between panes of glass has escaped. If that is the case moisture has crept inside and the window isn’t doing much to battle the chilly weather and you need to replace your windows.

Does the window operate and open and close smoothly? If it worked well from day one and doesn’t now then something is up. Windows like anything will break or fail with repeated use over the decades. If you notice that it isn’t operating as it should be then it is time to replace your window.

And the most dreaded of all… Do you notice any water or stains around the trim or window sill? If so it is most definitely time to replace your windows before it gets any worse.
